Whether its to the delight of casino patrons passing underneath or the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread, the sign guides one in.
Signs are a business persons first thought.
Here is one of the oldest bakeries in the US.
Imagine all the San Francisco citizens it has feed ?
The sign still has that ‘warm feeling’.
The people who labored to bring these graphic wonders to life felt they were artisans in a craft.
When you see old signage that endeavor was organized and well thought out by the artisans retained.
Each person in the Sign Trade had enormous prided in workmanship. To be productive and have a skilled job was a measure of a mans worth. A lost value now days.
There were artists, draftsmen, designers, woodcraft’s, metal fabricators, electricians, engineers, ad agencies and more people than you can imagine involved in the Sign Business. This was all hand made in America by American skilled craftsmen, A lost art now days.
America was an advertising mecca. Everything needs to be sold and that means advertising !
In the fifties it was bigger bolder and louder to get the customers attention. Not always in the best of taste but heck, that’s advertising.
In America we build things, we create things. It is what makes us unique in the world. Americans invent things. It’s possibly a ‘lost time’ now days.
Here is a very happy day for a Las Vegas subcontractor and a customer, the Silver Slipper Casino.
Barely able to fit on the large truck the soon to be famous ‘Silver Slipper’
is on her way to become a World Famous and Historical Las Vegas Marquee.
Job done and paid !
